Why should I vote?
Gun Violence Prevention
We deserve a future free from gun violence.
Not only have AAPIs consistently been targets of mass shootings and violence, but AAPI youth also have the fastest growing firearm suicide rate of any racial or ethnic group - with a 71% increase over the last decade.
59% of AAPI gun-related deaths are suicide, and 37% are homicides. The leading cause of death in AAPI youth is suicide, and firearms are among the most common method used.
50% of Asian parents are concerned about their children being killed by gun violence, and nearly 70% of AAPI voters support stronger gun violence prevention legislation.
When AAPI adults do seek support, they often encounter access barriers. In a study conducted by AAPI Data, 42% of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander adults and 31% of Asian American adults reported difficulty accessing mental health services.
Asian & Immigration Hate
We deserve a future where no one experiences hate or violence.
A recent survey by Stop AAPI Hate and the National Opinion Research Center showed that 49% of AAPIs were victims of a hate act in the United States in 2022.
We must demand policies that protect us, not ignore us. We can also demand support and acknowledgement from our elected officials, not only regarding local harassment charges, but also relating to harmful anti-AAPI rhetoric and institutional discrimination on the national scale.
Climate Change
We only have one Earth. Let’s vote to enact policies that protect our people and planet.
Whether you’re in Texas or anywhere else in the world, climate change is evident - from hurricanes, to flooding, to droughts, to derechos, all of these unnatural disasters have ravaged our communities.
8 out of 10 AAPI communities have experienced various major weather events within the last 5 years - including extreme heat (59%), severe cold (49%), major droughts (34%), and wildfires (33%).
People of color, including AAPIs, have a higher number of documented cases of heat-related illnesses, and communities of color breathe in 40% more polluted air than their white counterparts.
Reproductive Rights
Reproductive rights support education about our bodies, equal access to menstruation products, safety from domestic violence and sexual assault, and more.
Reproductive rights mean that people should be allowed to decide if, when, and how to grow their families. People of color, including AAPIs, are disproportionately affected by barriers to reproductive care, especially if they’re low-income, immigrants, non-English speakers, or genderqueer.
In a survey following the 2020 Election, 85% of AAPI women believed that women should have the right to make their own reproductive choices.
1 in 3 AAPI pregnancies end in termination. Access to reliable and accurate information about different options are critical.
Education is empowerment. When we have conversations about our options, without fear of shame or isolation, we heal generational trauma and inspire support within our communities.
