Reproductive Rights
Reproductive rights doesn’t only mean abortion access. It also supports education about our bodies, access to menstruation products, safety from domestic violence and sexual assault, and more. In a survey following the 2020 election, 85% of AAPI women believed that women should have the right to make their own reproductive choices.
Reproductive rights mean that people should be allowed to decide if, when, and how to grow their families. 1 in 3 AANHPI pregnancies end in termination, and access to reliable and accurate information about different options are critical.
People of color, including AAPIs, are disproportionately affected by barriers to reproductive care, especially if they’re low-income, immigrants, non-English speakers, or genderqueer.
Education is empowerment. When we have conversations about our options, without fear of shame or isolation, we heal generational trauma and inspire support within our communities.
We are grateful to NAPAWF (National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum) for their partnership and collaboration in empowering Texan AAPIs in their reproductive rights!
On July 25, 2024, Rise AAPI held a Reproductive Rights workshop in Houston, Texas.
