Rogene Gee Calvert
Board Chair
Rogene Gee Calvert has spent over 40 years as a civic leader, small business advocate, community volunteer, and philanthropic consultant. She continues to use her time and efforts to pursue different avenues to help people and strengthen communities.
Calvert has worked with local nonprofits, such as the United Way of Texas Gulf Coast, the Child Abuse Prevention Network, and volunteered on numerous boards and community organizations that focus on health, children, families, older adults, education, and leadership.
Rogene was born in Houston, she grew up as the 2nd of 4 children. Her father emigrated from the Canton region in China to the US, while her mother was born and raised in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Her parents co-owned a grocery store in the south Houston area of Third Ward. She went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in political science and met her future husband, Kent.
After graduating, Rogene became involved in the Community Welfare Planning Association. These experiences taught her how to advocate for issues and take action for people. Additionally, she launched a highly successful career in public policy, advocacy, and nonprofit organizations.
